Prayers and Squares is an interfaith outreach ministry with over 185 chapters operating in Methodist, Lutheran, United Church of Christ, Presbyterian, Episcopal, Roman Catholic, and non-denominational churches across the United States and Australia. The ministry began in 1992 at Hope United Methodist Church in Rancho Bernardo, where members prayed as they made a quilt for a critically ill 2 year old. The prayer quilt ministry at St. John’s was formed in February of 2000. |

Quilts are provided at the request of parishioners who have family or friends in need of prayer. Once completed, the quilts are displayed on Sunday following each service. Parishioners are asked to stop by the quilt table, say a prayer for the person for whom the quilt was made, and tie a knot. Prayers and Squares is a simple idea with powerful results - the warmth of the quilt comes from the prayers that are tied into each knot by many members of the congregation. During the past five years, St. John’s has made and distributed over 200 quilts, each one carrying dozens of prayers from our congregation. |

We meet on Tuesday mornings for sewing, pressing, cutting, and praying. Our ministry consists of church members from St. John‘s as well as other Fallbrook churches. We are a small group and we work as a team. There is no formal structure, but we are knit together by this powerful ministry of prayer and caring. For those who feel called to this ministry, we welcome visitors from any church to drop by on Tuesdays from 10AM to 2PM.
If you want to request a prayer quilt, please present a written request for a specific prayer need to the office. Those who request quilts and those who receive them must agree to accept the gift of prayer in the form of the quilt. There is no other obligation attached to the gift. |
