May 2011 ~ Holy Humor Sunday & St.
John's 120th Anniversary Celebration
Christians get the last
laugh after Easter with Holy Humor Sunday, which is a resurrection of an
ancient custom called "Bright Sunday" (the Sunday after Easter), when
early Christians had a day of joy and laughter to celebrate Jesus'
resurrection. St. John's churchgoers, who wore silly hats, shirts and
masks, had fun with joyful hymns, jokes, a kazoo chorus, and Alexander
Brown’s spectacular yo-yo tricks woven into the traditional liturgy.
After the service, there was a celebration of St. John's 120th
anniversary, where the fun continued with great food, games, hula hoops
and drenching one another with water balloons!
After all, God had played a practical joke on the devil by raising Jesus
from the dead.

October 2010
~ Annual Blessing of the Animals
Parishioners brought their special family
members to St. John's to be blessed during the annual
"Blessing of the Pets", held on the Sunday close to the feast day of St.
Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals. It's a reminder that all of
God's creatures should be respected and loved. |

May 9, 2010
~ Bishop's Visit & Mother's Day combined
celebration
Our beloved friend and teacher, The Rt.
Rev. James Mathes, Bishop of
San Diego Diocese, visited us again on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 9th.
We celebrated his visit and
Mother’s Day with a casual reception following the service. This
was a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the role of our diocese
among its member churches and the community. |

variety of other churches in Fallbrook, St. John's proudly participated in
Crop Walk to help alleviate hunger in our community and the world. |

January 2010 ~ Game Day
St. John's was the scene of
the battle of wits as young and old, singles and families competed at a
variety of games and puzzles. Everyone left a winner! |

November 2009 ~ St. John's Marks Organ's
Silver Anniversary Don

John's organ, returned to Fallbrook to help mark the instrument’s
silver anniversary with a special performance during our Thanksgiving
Sunday service. |

Easter 2009 ~ St. John's
celebrates return to Iowa Street home.
After a nearly three year absence,
parishioners of St. John's Episcopal Church finally returned to their
historical home on Iowa Street. To mark the special event, our bishop The
Rt. Rev. James R. Mathes officiated, and in attendance were
representatives from congregations throughout the diocese.
Many thanks to everyone at St. John's and
the diocese who worked so hard to make our return a reality and who made
this special celebration such a success! |

February 2009 ~ St. John's spreads love
at Fallbrook Skilled Nursing Facility
with beautifully constructed lacey Valentines of intertwined hearts,
decorated with “Love Notes” and ribbons and affixed to each resident’s
door. Perhaps their smiles of appreciation are of romantic/sentimental
reminiscences of Valentines past. Our “workers” Ruth Mowat, Marion
New, Peggy Johnson with an assist from Gail Jones, enjoyed this project
and possibly their own romantic Valentine flash backs! |
