St. John’s offers Sunday school each Sunday, periodic Bible studies, and other educational opportunities throughout the year at St. John’s or through the Diocese.
Sunday school is offered for children and youth ages 5-18 every Sunday. Each week a children’s homily is offered by the celebrant and this short children’s sermon, which acts as a jump-start for Sunday school, is enjoyed by youth and adults alike. Currently, two Sunday’s a year are Youth Sunday’s and our children serve in all capacities of Worship and support, acting as ushers, greeters, readers, and yes, even delivering the sermon! These are very inspirational services. Although we do not have a youth group, per se, we include our youth in every service and all aspects of life at St. John’s. Additionally, opportunities are offered during the year for children to get together outside of church and enjoy fellowship designed just for them. Our calendar year culminates with a Christmas Pageant presented by the youth and enjoyed by all.
Adult education is available in the form of several study groups throughout the year on varying topics. Our Lenten Soup Suppers at Six is a popular program held one evening per week during Lent. The program topic varies from year-to-year, but the soup and fellowship are always warm and inviting.
Both children and adults have opportunities to participate in diocesan events such as New Beginnings and Happenings, which are retreats for middle and high school students, or Curisillo which is a retreat weekend for adults.
